Table tennis professional and Malmö resident Truls Möregårdh is Skåne's Person of the Year 2025. Now he has his portrait in "Welcome to my hometown" at Malmö Airport - the gallery on the way out to the baggage hall that has welcomed the airport's travelers to Skåne and Malmö for over ten years.
"It's incredibly fun and very honorable," says Truls Möregårdh, voted Skåne of the Year by Kvällsposten readers by a wide margin. On Wednesday he was on site at Malmö Airport to unveil his portrait together with the airport manager Nils Funke.
"The Skåne of the Year is an award that goes to a person who is a source of pride for Skåne and contributes to good publicity for the region. Truls Möregårdh is a role model for a new generation of young athletes and with a great deal of humility and an enormous passion for his sport, he strengthens Sweden's position on the international table tennis scene. We are so happy to have his portrait here at the airport," says Nils Funke, Swedavia's airport manager at Malmö Airport.
The Skåne Person of the Year award is presented annually by the newspaper Kvällsposten and the Skåne Flag Day Foundation. Last year's winner was golfer Ludvig Åberg, who has had his portrait displayed in Malmö Airport's "Welcome to my hometown" gallery over the past year, along with Jason "Timbuktu" Diakité, Therese Sjögran, Zlatan Ibrahimović and other successful Skåne figures.
Truls Möregårdh was born in 2002 in Hovmantorp, Småland, but moved to Eslöv in Skåne when he was twelve. Today he lives in Malmö. At 23 years old, Truls Möregårdh has already won singles medals in the Olympics, World Championships and European Championships. In August this year, Möregårdh was in the spotlight when the Europe Smash was held in Malmö.
