TUI Care Foundation and enpact win awards for Tourism Recovery Programme

TUI Care Foundation and enpact have been awarded prizes, two gold and one silver, at WTM Responsible Tourism Awards. The awards recognise their work around the world supporting sustainable tourism businesses during the pandemic in Africa and Latin America. The TUI Care Foundation, which works for responsible tourism, also received a silver at WTM London, in the category ”Sustaining Employees and Communities through the Pandemic” and won an Energy Globe Award for the TUI Junior Academy in Curaçao, in recognition of its work educating teachers and young people about environmental issues, recycling and sustainability.

During the pandemic, many local tourism businesses were hit hard, especially in countries where tourism contributes to a large part of the country's economy. To help sustainable tourism businesses, which are having a positive impact in emerging and developing countries around the world, the TUI Care Foundation and one-stop support 565 innovative entrepreneurial teams in the tourism sector. The support was in the form of mentoring and financial support and started in December 2020. The program COVID-19 Relief Program helped with crisis management strategies, job protection, and building sustainable economic development locally.

TUI Care Foundation has also recently won three other global awards for its work: Silver for the Global Corona Relief Fund initiative in the category ”Sustaining Employees and Communities through the Pandemic” at WTM London. The award recognised TUI Care Foundation’s support during the pandemic in tourist destinations, which included distributing emergency packages to vulnerable families, providing childcare, homeschooling initiatives, community health care and financial relief for companies with tourism-related social impact missions.

Every year we highlight companies that have taken responsibility to improve the positive effects of tourism or reduce the negative ones. The TUI Care Foundation's work to support small and medium-sized businesses during the pandemic was an excellent example of what large players like TUI can do to support and develop the work of the small local businesses that employ so many and provide so much of the character of the destination. Says Dr. Harold Goodwin, Chair of the WTM Responsible Tourism Awards judging panel

According to the press release.
