Sustainability has become increasingly important for most industries and smart solutions through technological innovations are high on the agenda to reduce their ecological footprint in specific areas. TUI is organizing its first Sustainability Hackathon together with the school Hyper Island for this very purpose.

Earlier this year, the project ”The Rhodes Co-Lab” was presented. The project will develop the sustainable tourism of the future. It is a collaboration between TUI, the Greek government and the local tourism industry. The parties have committed to following the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and will, among other things, reduce tourism’s ecological footprint on the island with the help of new concepts for energy, water and waste management.

Most recently, TUI's first TUI Sustainability Hackathon was organized last week together with Hyper Island. 100 employees from all parts of TUI worked together in 12 different "Hack teams" to develop different solutions for their holiday products and services with the goal of reducing waste and/or carbon dioxide.
