On August 31, TUI will once again launch charter flights directly from Umeå Airport. The first charter route and international air traffic in almost 1.5 years will go to Crete, Greece. Ahead of the autumn holidays, TUI is expanding its offering with weekly direct departures to the Canary Islands, Spain. At the same time, Ving is also restarting its charter flights from Umeå to Gran Canaria.
Although travel is still heavily affected by the pandemic, demand for air travel has increased, both in the form of scheduled flights and charter flights. During the summer, all of Swedavia's airports experienced a large increase in traffic and passenger numbers compared to previous months. In July, more than 28,000 passengers flew domestically from Umeå Airport, approximately half the number of passengers compared to the same month in 2019, before the pandemic.
– We are of course very pleased that we are seeing increased demand and the beginning of a recovery for aviation. The fact that TUI is returning to our airport and offering our travelers the opportunity to travel abroad with direct flights before the autumn is important for the recovery in the region, says Bengt-Ove Lindgren, airport manager Umeå Airport.
– For travel within Europe, the EU's digital Covid certificate creates the conditions for simplified travel as control procedures can be further coordinated. However, we urge our travelers to stay updated on the entry regulations at their destination and follow the recommendations that apply for safe travel, concludes Bengt-Ove Lindgren.
Starting August 31st, offers TUI departures with direct flights Umea Airport – Crete, Greece once a week on Tuesdays.
Starting October 29th, offers TUI or Wing departures with direct flights Umeå Airport to Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain once a week on Fridays.
