Two people have died after turbulence on a plane en route to Singapore on Monday, Thai media reports.
Around thirty people were injured, ten of whom were seriously injured, according to Thai media.
”"We can confirm that there were injuries and one fatality on board the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft," the airline wrote.
According to information provided to Thai media, there are reports of another death. However, this is not something that the airline itself has confirmed.
There were a total of 211 passengers on board. According to flight tracking services, the aircraft dived approximately 1,800 meters in a short time just before it was forced to make an emergency landing.
The airline wrote in a statement: "We express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased."”

What is turbulence?
There are two types of turbulence: shaking and so-called air pockets.
- What is usually called air pockets are up and down movements. They can feel unpleasant and can be dangerous if you are not strapped in or if heavy objects are loose, but they do not pose a danger to the aircraft body. All aircraft models have been subjected to significantly higher stresses during airworthiness certification in order to be approved.
- Troubling winds occur when clouds form and air moves vertically up and down at high wind speeds. They usually increase in intensity the closer you fly to the equator.
- Vibrations that feel like you are riding on a washboard. Over time, the vibrations can strain the aircraft's structure, which is why the aircraft is inspected externally before each flight to check that no damage has occurred during a previous flight.
