Two people died when a small aircraft crashed into the sea off Lofoten in northern Norway.

The plane crashed outside Svolvær shortly after takeoff, writes Lofotenposten.
A large rescue operation was called out at 8:35 p.m., involving a helicopter, nearby boats such as MS Trollfjord and MS Nordkapp, and other rescue boats.

The plane wreckage was also found at 8:48 p.m. The people were picked up from the water, but their lives could not be saved.
Norway's equivalent of the Civil Aviation Authority has notified the Accident Investigation Board, which is looking into the incident.
