Uber's self-driving test vehicles were involved in 37 accidents in the 18 months leading up to a fatal crash in Arizona last March, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NTSB). The accidents occurred while the vehicles were in self-driving mode, and in 33 of them, the self-driving car collided with another vehicle.

In one of the accidents, the test vehicle crashed into a pole marking a bike lane, and in another, a self-driving car swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle and collided with a parked car. The NTSB is still investigating the causes of the accidents.

At the time of the fatal accident, the Uber car, a Volvo XC90, was in self-driving mode with the driver sitting in the driver's seat. A 49-year-old woman was crossing the road just next to a crosswalk and was hit. She later died in hospital.

A settlement was reached between the company and the woman's husband and daughter.
