An investigator from Iran is expected to visit Ukraine soon to assess whether a Ukrainian laboratory would be suitable to work with the black boxes, according to a security official in Ukraine, Reuters reports.
According to Iran, a person who filmed the plane being shot down has been arrested. The arrested person may be charged with some type of crime against the country's security, writes BBC. The journalist who first posted the footage online, however, says the person who filmed it is safe and that the Iranian authorities have arrested the wrong person. The journalist is an Iranian resident of the UK.
President Hassan Rouhani has promised a thorough investigation into the downing of the plane. Several people linked to the incident have been arrested.
Iranian social media is urging people to participate in demonstrations for the fifth day in a row today, a week after the crash.
Students, who are on the front lines of the demonstrations, have been staging protests in Tehran and other cities since Saturday, when authorities admitted their role in the incident after three days of denials.
Iran has described the downing as a tragic mistake, which came hours after it fired missiles at Iraqi military bases used by US troops. The strikes were part of a response to the US killing of top Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani.
