The American airline United Airlines places the largest aircraft order in the company's history, according to a press release.
The order is for 270 planes, of which 200 are Boeing's 737 Max and 70 are Airbus A321 Neo, both medium-haul aircraft. The order is the largest single order in the airline industry in at least 10 years, according to CNBC.
United Airlines, which has announced its intention to purchase new planes, plans to retire around 200 planes as the new planes are delivered from Boeing and Airbus.
The airline's stock was trading around zero in US pre-market trading on Tuesday, while Boeing and Airbus shares were up about 1 percent.
