Waxholms Hotell, located outside Stockholm, has filed for bankruptcy, according to reports. P4 Stockholm.
Waxholms Hotell in Vaxholm, just outside Stockholm, has been in existence since 1902 but has now filed for bankruptcy.
This summer, the current owner Thérèse Liljeqvist, who has been in charge of the hotel since 2020, terminated the rental agreement with the property owner Artmax, as she considered the rental costs to have become too high. The owner agreed to continue running the hotel until the end of October. The property owner has in the meantime been looking for a new operator to take over the hotel, but this has not yielded any results.
”No new operator has been presented, and continuing to run the hotel with the current rent and conditions just isn't possible. As much as I'd like to,” the owner writes on Facebook.
She adds that hopefully the hotel will remain open and in operation in November, but that it is up to the administrator to make those decisions.
The property owner Artmax is a Hong Kong-based property investor. The world of real estate has previously written that the company is trying to sell several Swedish properties, including the hotel in Vaxholm.
