It is now clear that a railway line will be built between Los Angeles and Las Vegas in the United States, something described as the United States' first high-speed railway. The train line has been named Brightline West and will be drawn through the Mojave Desert. The trains operating on the route will have a maximum speed of approximately 320 km/h. It will take approximately 2 hours and ten minutes to travel between Las Vegas and the Rancho Cucamonga station outside Los Angeles.

That's about half the time it takes to travel the same distance by car. The project is estimated to cost about $12 billion to complete, with the US government contributing $3 billion of that. It is also believed that the new railway will cut 400,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions from automobile traffic each year and create about 35,000 new jobs. It is hoped that Brightline West will be operational within four years.
