The US Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit to try to stop a business alliance between major airlines American Airlines and JetBlue.

The Ministry believes that cooperation reduces competition.

”"When just four airlines control more than 80 percent of domestic flights, an 'alliance' between American Airlines and JetBlue is an unprecedented move to consolidate the airline industry," Attorney General Merrick Garland wrote in a statement.

Six states and the District of Columbia also support the lawsuit.

The two companies announced the collaboration, called the Northeast Alliance, in July 2020.
