Statistics Sweden's preliminary figures for guest nights in 2022 show a fantastic result for Värmland. Compared to other Swedish regions, Värmland is performing very strongly with an increase of over 41 percent compared to 2021, which is the second largest recovery after the Stockholm Region (just over 55 percent).

–The overnight stay figures indicate a good recovery of the tourism industry in Värmland. Overall, Värmland in 2022 is on par with the figures before the pandemic and compared to 2019, we see an increase in national guests of almost 6 percent, which indicates that more domestic visitors and new target groups have discovered Värmland. We are pleased with this and we continue to create the conditions for more national and international visitors to be able to take part in Värmland's experiences, says Mia Landin, CEO of Visit Värmland.

During January - December 2022, Värmland had 2.6 million guest nights (including Karlskoga and Degerfors), an increase of 41 percent compared to 2021. Just over 1.8 million guest nights were spent in Värmland by domestic visitors and just over 760,000 by international visitors.

Värmland has received foreign guests back in 2022 to almost the same extent as before the pandemic. Visitors from Norway remain Värmland's largest international market with just over 400,000 guest nights (443 percent increase compared to 2021), followed by Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark. However, there are markets that Värmland is missing in 2022, primarily China, which contributed with Asian visitors.

–We have great confidence in Värmland's tourism industry in 2023, even though this year also brings challenges for the entire society with increased food and electricity prices and the lack of skills and personnel in the industry. We are already seeing many new ideas, innovations and collaborations emerging, so the challenges will also bring some good things, says Mia Landin.
