Venice is considering raising the entrance fee for day tourists to up to 30 euros, equivalent to around 330 kronor, reports Reuters.

Michele Zuin, a member of the city's budget and tax committee, believes that the current level of 5–10 euros is too low to discourage tourists and counteract overtourism.

“The current fee is affordable for practically everyone; the risk is that it no longer has the deterrent effect that this measure is intended to have,” he said, according to the news agency.

The proposal also means that the fee will be charged for a longer period of the year than today. This year it was applicable for 54 selected days between April 3 and July 26.

The entrance fee then brought in over 5.2 million euros from just under 680,000 tickets sold.
