There was a close call with a serious ferry accident off Åland on Saturday, writes Swedish.

The cruise ferry Viking Grace was only 15 meters from being rammed by the smaller ferry M/S Skiftet in a narrow waterway off Sottunga.

– It was close to the eye. At the very last moment, the ships managed to swerve to avoid a collision. They were only 15 meters apart, says investigation leader Tommi Lehtonen at the Western Finland Coast Guard Section to Hufvudstadsbladet.

According to him, a collision had caused holes in both hulls.

According to SvD, two people on the crew of the Skiftet are suspected of endangering traffic safety and failing to observe good seamanship.
