Viking Line has reached an agreement with the French-Italian shipping company Corsica Ferries SAS to sell its faithful servant M/S Amorella. The ship has operated the Stockholm-Turku route via Åland for more than three decades, but since April 1st it has been operating the Stockholm-Mariehamn-Helsinki route.

The decision to sell M/S Amorella was made some time ago, according to the company, and is part of the renewal of the company's fleet. The Stockholm–Turku route via Åland is now served by the newly built car and passenger ferry Viking Glory.

The total sales price for M/S Amorella is EUR 19.1 million, equivalent to almost SEK 200 million. The vessel's book value as of June 30, 2022 was EUR 3.2 million.

”"Amorella, which has been operating for Viking Line since 1988, is one of the faithful servants in the shipping company's fleet. She has been a mainstay that has maintained regular traffic on the shipping company's core route between Turku, Åland and Stockholm. The staff's efforts and commitment over the years have been crucial to the ship's traffic," says the company's CEO Jan Hanses in a comment.

According to the shipping company CEO, the sale does not mean that Viking Line is giving up the Helsinki – Stockholm route. The company will continue the service with one ship during the winter and is simultaneously evaluating ”strategic alternatives for the continuation of the route”.

Currently, Viking Line's goal is for Amorella's regular staff to be offered work on the company's other ships.
