British airline Virgin Atlantic, founded by billionaire Richard Branson, is closing its offices and leaving Hong Kong for good.
This is stated in a press release.
Virgin Atlantic's operations have existed in Hong Kong for 30 years, but now several factors have made it increasingly difficult to justify presence.
These factors include the closure of Russian airspace, a response from Moscow after Western countries imposed sanctions over the war in Ukraine, which has made Virgin Atlantic's flights to and from Europe longer. In 2019, Virgin Australia also decided to no longer fly to Hong Kong from Melbourne and Sydney.
