Ash from a volcano on Bali, Indonesia, has forced the tourist island to close its international airport.

Agung has become active after being quiet since last year. An ash column reaches 2,500 meters into the air and reddish fire has been seen in the crater, the country's rescue services say.
48 flights have been canceled and over 8,300 travelers are affected.

Airlines avoid flying through volcanic ash as it can damage engines, among other things.
