Volcanic ash halts flights to Sicily

Remove

All traffic to and from Catania airport in eastern Sicily has been stopped due to an eruption of the Etna volcano.

The volcano, which is one of the world's most active, has been seen spewing lava and ash in recent days.

”"Due to eruptions and ash emissions, a decision has been made to suspend flight operations," the airport operator writes on X, urging passengers to contact their airline for information.

Catania airport was also closed earlier this month due to ash clouds obscuring visibility.
