Argentina's weather agency SMN has issued warnings for dangerous heat in nine of the country's provinces.

The South American country is experiencing its eighth heatwave this summer – with temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius. Over the past decade, there have never been more than four or five such peaks per season.

Calculated for the period November to January, it is the hottest summer since 1961. The temperature is about 1.7 degrees higher than normal, according to SMN.
