Authorities in Hawaii are warning residents about the island's Mauna Loa volcano, which is the world's largest volcano, reports AP.

Authorities have seen signs that the volcano may erupt. Several earthquakes have occurred recently.

”Mauna Loa makes up 51 percent of the island’s land mass. Anywhere within that area could be affected by an eruption,” says Talmadge Magno, of Hawaii County Civil Defense.

There is currently no immediate danger, but residents are urged to be vigilant.

”"Don't panic, but you have to be aware if you live on the slopes of Mauna Loa. There is a risk of some kind of lava disaster," says Talmadge Magno.

The volcano's last eruption occurred in 1984.
