The passengers were dressed to visit a warm city in Texas. Instead, they were stuck for days in a freezing cold place in Canada.

“Furious is an understatement,” passenger Jon Shipman told BBC.

A British Airways plane flew from London to Houston, USA, on Tuesday. Since it was over 20 degrees Celsius in Houston, the passengers were dressed accordingly, according to the Daily Beast. Jon Shipman and his family were on board the plane.  

However, a medical emergency on board meant the plane had to be diverted and the aircraft landed in St John's, Canada. The plane was then unable to take off again due to what was described as a ”temporary technical problem” by British Airways.

According to Shipman, the passengers were only allowed to take the clothes they were wearing at the time and were unable to take their luggage with them. The temperature in the area was ten degrees below zero.

"When we finally arrived, we were just left there. We sat there waiting for news and had to talk to the local airport staff for help," says Shipman.

”Our vacation is ruined”

The passengers were accommodated in hotels and informed that a flight would leave the area on Wednesday evening. However, when they went to the airport, they discovered that the plane was heading back to London instead of continuing its journey to Houston. 

As passengers began to board, the flight was suddenly canceled.

Two days after arriving, Shipman and his family were finally put on a flight to Houston. But Shipman said ”everyone was frustrated”:

– Our whole vacation is ruined.

British Airways has offered passengers a voucher worth £500 each and apologised. 

"We are truly sorry for our customers' experience," a spokesperson for the airline told the Daily Mail.
