Waymo is recalling 3,791 self-driving cars in the USA after a software error could cause the vehicles to drive into flooded roads, according to the NHTSA road safety agency.

The recall covers certain fifth and sixth generation self-driving systems.

Waymo has temporarily tightened weather-related restrictions and updated maps while a permanent solution is developed.

At the same time, Waymo is being scrutinised after a self-driving vehicle hit a child in Santa Monica in January.

A separate investigation concerns.
