The number of hotel nights in Sweden grew weaker in 2017 than in the EU as a whole, according to data from the European statistics agency Eurostat.

The Swedish increase in the number of hotel nights of just 0.5 percent can be compared with the EU average of 5.1 percent. Only the EU country Luxembourg, where the number of hotel nights decreased by 1.0 percent, had a weaker development than Sweden.

Significant increases in the number of hotel nights, however, were seen in Latvia (+12.0 percent), Slovenia (+11.3 percent) and Croatia (+10.6 percent).

For the EU as a whole, the number of hotel nights from foreign visitors grew by 6.9 percent, while the number of hotel nights from domestic visitors grew by 3.5 percent. For Sweden, the corresponding figures were +3.9 and -0.6 percent, respectively.

Measured in the number of hotel nights, the tourist country with the most hotel overnight stays is Spain, followed by France, Italy and Germany.
