Snow, cold and winter chaos have made many people long for the holidays. In early January, bookings for international trips increased sharply, and interest in traveling during the first months of the year is unusually high.
According to travel agency Ticket, the number of trips booked during the first week of the year has increased by 38 percent compared to the same period last year. A large portion of the bookings are for trips departing during the first three months of the year, indicating a strong desire to get on the road.
– We are noticing a very strong desire to travel right now. There is much evidence that the snow chaos has made more people want to book a holiday abroad, says Tiyoneh Jah, PR and communications manager at Ticket.
Just over half of all bookings currently being made are for trips departing in January, February or March. This shows that many people want to get away and change their environment as soon as possible, whether it's a sunny trip to warmer latitudes or a city break to get away from the everyday winter routine.
