The awards for the best Swedish restaurants of the year were presented at the Bookatable Diner Awards ceremony at Miss Clara in Stockholm on Monday evening.

The award, which is based on reviews and ratings by restaurant guests on bookatable.se, was presented in ten categories, ranging from the best seafood restaurant to the best organic cuisine.

– The Bookatable Diner Awards were established with the aim of sharing what restaurant guests think and letting them decide, and that is exactly how it works today. The Diner Awards are the diners’ awards, as all the winners are selected based on the reviews and ratings left by diners on the Bookatable website. That is precisely what makes the competition unique and so incredibly appreciated by both restaurants and diners, says Åsa Murphy, Managing Director at Bookatable by Michelin.

There was a sense of anticipation in the air as Bookatable revealed which restaurants had become the nation’s favourites among diners, and the mood among the winners was jubilant.

-Wow, this is fantastic! It feels magical to receive an award based on what our guests actually think. After all, it’s for them that we run our restaurant,’ says Elin Hoas, from Lilla Bjers Gårdskrog, which won in two categories: Best Organic Cuisine and Sweden’s Best Restaurant.

Sturehof was nominated in the category ‘Best Restaurant in Stockholm’ and was the winner in the category ‘Best Seafood Restaurant’.

-It feels great, and at the same time rather fitting, that we’ve won the award for Best Seafood Restaurant, given how far we’ve come in terms of our sourcing channels for fish and shellfish. We’ve worked incredibly hard to get to where we are today, buying directly from the auction in Smögen, and often straight from the fishing boats. And it’s particularly pleasing that this award and nomination come from our guests,” says Thomas Mortensen, restaurant manager at Sturehof.
