Last year, 20.6 million travelers visited Croatia. According to the eVisitor system, these visitors generated 108 million overnight stays. Compared to 2022, the number of arrivals increased by 91.3 million and overnight stays by 31.3 million.
”Croatia has further consolidated its position as one of the most sought-after destinations in Europe over the past year. This is visible not only in the overall result but also in other indicators, such as tourism revenues, which are also expected to reach record highs,” said Kristjan Staničić, Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board. He expressed his gratitude to all partners in the tourism industry for another excellent tourism year.
Staničić pointed out that 2024 will be a challenging year due to the current global situation. Despite this, Croatia plans to maintain its competitiveness through a sustainability focus and various marketing campaigns.
“Tourism and the economy in 2023 were good. We carried out important activities that support tourism development. The pre- and post-seasons were the best ever, which indicates the strengthening of year-round tourism. An extended tourist season is one of the important strategic goals of the Tourist Board. In addition, a new law was adopted to further strengthen the sustainability of tourism. Financial resources for sustainability work are secured through existing ongoing projects and the state budget in order to achieve the goals in 2024,” according to Nikolina Brnjac, Minister of Tourism and Sports.
The highest number of overnight stays last year were from Germany with 23.6 million overnight stays, Austria with 8.4 million, the Netherlands with 3.1 million and the Nordic countries with around 3 million. The most popular destinations in Croatia were Istria, Split-Dalmatia County and Kvarner with an average increase in overnight stays of 21.3%.
Dubrovnik named a “must-visit” destination in 2024
