Preliminary statistics show that the number of guest nights at Swedish campsites in July increased by 9 percent to just over 6 million compared to 2021. Accommodation revenue during the same period amounted to SEK 913 million, an increase of 14 percent compared to the corresponding period last year. The proportion of international guests amounted to 29 percent.
-Our industry has had many years of record growth and with the increase in international travel, there is now a good chance of surpassing the record level from 2019 and reaching over 17 million guest nights. That the Norwegian market is back to the same level as before the pandemic is pleasing and extremely important for many Swedish destinations, says Peter Jansson, acting CEO.
In July, 44 percent of all international tourists in Sweden chose to stay at a campsite. In total, international guest nights have increased by 286 percent during the year and are now approaching pre-pandemic levels. The largest increase comes from Norway, which is also Sweden's most important foreign market.
More and more tourists are choosing Sweden for their holidays and now the industry is investing for the future. A recent survey shows that SCR Svensk Camping's member companies are planning major investments in the coming years. Increased accommodation capacity, new service buildings and a wider range of activities are the areas given highest priority. In total, the approximately 310 facilities offer 7,000 cabins and 50,000 camping pitches.
-The willingness to invest remains high within SCR. With more guests and not least new guests, the demands are rising and we see how the industry is now investing to be able to offer even better holiday experiences for both Swedish and international target groups, says Peter Jansson, acting CEO of SCR.
