Big problems for train traffic

Train traffic has major problems in many parts of the country.

In addition to planned track work causing extra travel time, trains are canceled or delayed due to, among other things, the risk of solar flares, but also after electrical or signal failures.

According to the Swedish Transport Administration, there are train stops between Simrishamn and Ystad due to an electrical fault caused by a thunderstorm. Traffic is expected to resume normally after 7 a.m. on Thursday morning.

Train traffic between Narvik in Norway and Kiruna is also completely stopped due to a fire on the tracks on the Norwegian side. There is no forecast for when trains will run normally again, but the route is being replaced by buses.

Due to continued high temperatures, train traffic is also suspended on a number of routes in Götaland, the Swedish Transport Administration announces. This is due to the risk of sunstroke. These include the routes Kalmar–Linköping, Värnamo–Halmstad, Jönköping–Värnamo and Nässjö–Vetlanda. Traffic will resume there on Saturday morning at the earliest.

The Swedish Transport Administration urges travelers to contact their train companies in the hope of clarity on what applies.
