ID checks should always be carried out on all passengers when travelling by passenger ship.
This is what the government wants, which has now decided on a change in regulations, according to a press release.
According to current rules, ID checks must be carried out if there is reason to believe that the information provided without checking the ID document is incorrect.
”"The purpose of the passenger lists is to know in the event of a maritime accident or other incident how many passengers are on board and who these people are," the press release states.
The change will enter into force on March 28 and expire on September 1, 2022.
”"With a large number of refugees now moving through Europe, it also poses additional challenges to register accurate data. It can also facilitate the conditions for the reception of refugees," the press release states.
