Turkey will be the latest addition to their network of destinations. Flights to Istanbul IST will be offered four times a week from 5 September 2025, with a flight time of approximately five and a half hours.
Excellent connections from Asia and the Middle East to Iceland
As part of the new route to Istanbul, Icelandair is expanding its codeshare cooperation with Turkish Airlines, which was first announced in the summer of 2023. Turkish Airlines is the airline that operates to the most countries in the world, and Icelandair's flight times to Istanbul will be coordinated for smooth connections to Turkish Airlines' routes to and from Asia and the Middle East. The new connection will thus significantly reduce the total travel time for travellers flying from the east to Iceland.
Istanbul is Turkey's largest city, situated on the Bosphorus, where Europe and Asia meet both geographically and culturally. The city has a rich history stretching back to the 7th century BC and offers an impressive cultural heritage, with historical buildings, fascinating museums, and the venerable Grand Bazaar – one of the world's oldest and largest covered markets, founded in 1461.
Bogi Nils Bogason, CEO and Group President of Icelandair, comments
– We are very pleased to be able to add Istanbul as a destination to our network and strengthen our cooperation with Turkish Airlines, providing more smooth connections between Iceland and the East. In recent years, we have seen a growing interest in travel between Asia and Iceland, and with these new routes, we are further strengthening our sales and distribution capacity. We look forward to offering our customers new opportunities and contributing to tourism in Iceland.
