Aviation giant Airbus is reportedly missing its production target for the A320neo aircraft type after problems with Pratt & Whitney engines caused a nearly three-month delivery halt.
This is reported by Bloomberg News, citing sources.
The French aircraft manufacturer is expecting 30 to 40 fewer aircraft than previously expected, according to one of the sources. It had planned to deliver about 210 of the type with Pratt engines, which is one of the engine options, during the rest of this year.
However, the target could be achieved if Pratt, part of United Technologies, increases engine production. Delays could expose the aircraft manufacturer and Pratt to penalties from frustrated customers. Airbus also intended to catch up on aircraft deliveries from last year this year, which is now out of the question. Airbus said in a statement that it can still meet its overall production target of 800 aircraft this year, without providing specifics on the A320 program. The aircraft manufacturer will report data on order levels and deliveries for June this week.
