The American low-cost airline JetBlue has placed an order for 60 Airbus aircraft of the A220-300 model, previously CS300.
This is stated in a press release.
The order value is not mentioned, but the Wall Street Journal estimates it could be five billion dollars, before traditional discounts are included for such large contracts.
The first five aircraft are expected to be delivered in 2020, with the remainder expected to be delivered through 2025 as Airbus ramps up production. JetBlue adds that it has an option for an additional 60 aircraft.
The A220-300 was previously known as the CS300 and was part of the CSeries while Bombardier owned the aircraft program. The CS300 offers 130 passenger seats and will be used primarily for national or regional flights.
JetBlue plans to use the A200-300 to replace its existing Embraer E190 aircraft. Embraer's commercial aircraft are now owned by Airbus's main rival, Boeing.
