A Southwest Airlines plane bound for Las Vegas on Friday was forced to dive to avoid a mid-air collision. Two cabin crew members were injured in the incident, reports say. ABC News.
The plane was only six minutes into its flight from Los Angeles to Las Vegas when it lost altitude by about 150 meters.
Passenger Steve Ulasweicz tells ABC News that they felt a "strong drop" and that the pilot shouted that they were forced to carry out a maneuver to avoid a "mid-air collision.".
In a statement, Southwest Airlines says the plane was able to continue to Las Vegas without any problems, but that two crew members are being treated for injuries that occurred as a result of the maneuver.
The airline also says it is working with the FAA to gain a better understanding of the incident.
The other aircraft that was close to colliding with was reportedly a Hawker Hunter. According to sources to ABC News, several planes of that model were in the air and conducting a routine exercise at the time.
Similar incident last week
This is the second incident in a short time where a mid-air collision has almost occurred. Last week, a passenger plane was of the Embraer 175 model, belonging to SkyWest, nearly collided with a B-52 bomber during the approach to Minot, North Dakota.
