Apollo Sports is expanding its range of training trips with a 12-day Shaolin Kung Fu retreat in China. In spring 2027, a small group of Nordic travelers will have the opportunity to train at a martial arts school in Dengfeng, near the famous Shaolin Temple.
The trip takes place at the Shaolin Yongzhi Traditional Martial Arts Academy at the foot of the Songshan Mountains. The school is an active martial arts school where Chinese students train year-round.
The program includes approximately four hours of Shaolin Kung Fu training per day, including traditional forms, strength and conditioning training, kicks, positions, mobility and sparring. Qi Gong, meditation, mindfulness and various breathing techniques are also included.
The training is adapted to the participants' level and the trip is open to both beginners and more experienced practitioners. The group is limited to a maximum of 20 participants.
– You don't need to have practiced Kung Fu before to join in. The most important thing is curiosity and the willingness to challenge yourself, says Daniel Giray, Sports Director at Apollo Sports.
Chinese culture is included in the program
In addition to the physical training, participants will learn more about Chinese culture and the Shaolin tradition. The program includes calligraphy, tea ceremony, Chinese, philosophy and traditional Chinese medicine.
Two full-day excursions are included. One goes to Luoyang with a visit to the Longmen Grottoes and White Horse Temple. The other goes to the Shaolin Temple and includes a guided tour and the opportunity for hiking.
– It's the combination that makes this trip so special. You don't just travel to China to practice Kung Fu, but you get to get close to the history, philosophy and culture around it, says Daniel Giray.
Departure from Stockholm and Copenhagen
The trip will take place April 3–17, 2027, while the retreat itself will take place April 5–16. Departures are offered from Stockholm and Copenhagen.
The price starts at 44,998 SEK and the group consists of between eight and 20 participants. Flights, transfers, accommodation in a shared double room and three meals a day are included along with training, cultural activities and the two full-day excursions.
