Preparations for the new Market Square at Stockholm Arlanda Airport are in full swing. An impressive glulam construction forms the frame of an expansion with a Nordic feel that will become one of the airport's new hallmarks and house many of the 30 or so new food concepts in the new Market Square.
– We are now halfway through the expansion of this part of the Market Square and it is a great feeling to see what was previously seen in drawings and plans now starting to become reality. In addition to the fact that the light wooden beams are beautiful, natural materials such as glulam have a significantly lower negative climate impact, says Jonas Missaoui, who is project manager for the veranda at Swedavia.
The new Market Square that is now emerging at Arlanda will be a total of 12,000 square meters of shopping, food and service to make the airport even more attractive and meet the varied needs and wishes of travelers. The renovations that are underway also include a completely new and greatly modernized security checkpoint in Terminal 5.
During 2023, the new developments at Arlanda and Terminal 5 will open in stages, with the veranda expansion expected to open towards the end of the year with all its offerings in place.
– Visitors to this part of Terminal 5 will truly be at the center of the action – right next to the pulse of the Market Square and with a front row seat to the heart of the airport and the runways, concludes Jonas Missaoui.
