China's capital Beijing will gradually ease its COVID-19 restrictions in the coming days, city spokespeople said on Sunday.

Starting Monday, Beijing residents will be allowed to return to their workplaces, and restaurants will be allowed to accept guests who have tested negative within the past three days. Public transport will also resume as normal in most districts.

As for the city's schools, they are scheduled to open on June 13th.

19 new Covid cases were reported on Sunday. During the pandemic, China has had a clear zero-case policy, using all means to try to stop the spread of the infection, including major lockdowns and mass testing.

In Beijing, with its 22 million inhabitants, just under 2,000 infections were confirmed in April – but that led to a total lockdown of the capital.

A similar situation has applied in Shanghai, but many restrictions have been lifted there since Wednesday.
