Aircraft giant Boeing has been burdened by a series of serious incidents. The company is now clearing out its top management, including CEO Dave Calhoun, who will be leaving at the end of the year.
Boeing announced on Monday that CEO Dave Calhoun is stepping down and will end his tenure at the end of 2024. A successor to the CEO position has not yet been appointed.
However, it doesn't stop there as Chairman Larry Kellner also declined re-election after 13 years on the board. The new Chairman will be Steve Mollenkopf and his mission will be to find a new CEO for the aircraft manufacturer. He has been on the board since 2020 and was previously CEO of the technology company Qualcomm.
Additionally, Stan Deal, president of the Boeing commercial airplanes (BCA) division, is retiring and stepping down effective immediately. He will be replaced by current chief operating officer Stephanie Pope.
Boeing has suffered several serious safety incidents this year. Most recently, a week ago, an aircraft part came loose from a Boeing 737-800. Earlier this year, a panel flew off the new Boeing 737 Max aircraft model. No passengers were injured and the aircraft landed safely in Portland. The incident led to the grounding of 171 newly manufactured 737 Max aircraft.
Dave Calhoun has been Boeing's CEO since 2020. The stock is trading just above zero on Monday after the announcement about the top executives. The price has lost almost 30 percent this year.
