At the beginning of the summer, we, other train companies, the Swedish Transport Agency and the Swedish Tourist Association highlighted shortcomings in the Swedish Transport Administration's planning capabilities, where we and other train companies receive timetables too late - which means that the train is not an alternative. The train industry needs better conditions, not worse, to be attractive and at the same time be better able to contribute to the climate transition in terms of sustainable travel.
Since then, the government has called an emergency meeting and the Swedish Transport Administration has promised to improve. 10 days ago, the Swedish Transport Administration made a statement and said that they were then delivering timetables for traffic 4-7 weeks in advance (compared to the statutory 4 months) and that by the end of the year they would be up to speed and delivering according to the law. Today, we and other train companies have trains that are due to run in less than 3 weeks where we still have not received any timetables. The situation is just as bad and urgent as it was in May.
Last week, the Director General of the Swedish Transport Administration criticized SJ AB in an article in DN because they communicated that they did not believe that the Swedish Transport Administration would be able to deliver timetables within 4 months at the turn of the year. We can only agree with SJ AB.
