Swedavia continued to report a positive result before tax, improved operating profit and stronger net sales during the third quarter of the year. The quarter was characterized by increased demand for air travel, both domestic and international, as well as increased commercial revenue.
– The increase in both international and domestic travel continued during the third quarter. Together with adjusted fees and increased revenue from commercial operations, this contributed to an improvement in net sales of SEK 102 million compared to the same period last year. The increased passenger volume resulted in higher costs, but overall operating profit also improved and amounted to SEK 249 million, says Jonas Abrahamsson, President and CEO.
During the third quarter of this year, just under ten million passengers travelled via Swedavia's ten airports, an increase of just over three percent compared to 2024. Demand for international travel remains positive and increased by just over three percent during the quarter. Domestic travel increased by just under four percent during the quarter compared to the corresponding period last year.
The third quarter of the year in numbers
Net sales for the third quarter amounted to SEK 1,800 million (1,698), an increase of SEK 102 million compared to the corresponding period in 2024. Operating profit improved further and amounted to SEK 249 million, which is SEK 20 million better than the previous year. Cash flow from operating activities improved by SEK 143 million compared to the previous year and amounted to SEK 568 million.
For the third quarter, Swedavia again reports a positive profit before tax of SEK 170 million, which is on par with last year's third quarter.
The operational delivery during the quarter has been very good at Swedavia's ten airports. After the first three quarters of the year, Stockholm Arlanda Airport is ranked as Europe's most punctual major airport according to Eurocontrol. The measurement refers to the first nine months of the year and represents a clear improvement compared to the corresponding period in 2024.
In September, Arlanda's marketplace was named "Commercial Place of the Year" at the prestigious NSCS (Nordic Commercial Spaces & Communities) Nordic Award.
The airports' commercial areas have been contracted out in competitive concessions, which has significantly improved commercial revenue per passenger. This revenue is an important part of Swedavia's business model and contributes greatly to Swedavia's ability to offer competitive airport charges.
The development of the Arlanda of the future continues. The project for jetties and parking areas is proceeding according to plan. It is an important part of ensuring continued high operational capacity and a smooth passenger experience.
Norwegian continues its ongoing expansion and Ryanair has also announced new investments at Swedavia's airports in general and Arlanda in particular. Several other airlines are also growing by double-digit percentages at Arlanda right now. Both the abolished aviation tax and Swedavia's previous investments to further increase the competitiveness of our airports have contributed to this development. At the same time, accessibility, in the form of direct intercontinental connections in particular, needs to be further improved.
SAS's changed strategy, where long-haul routes are being relocated to Copenhagen, increases the need to attract incoming airlines to Arlanda. Swedavia's competitive fees and a strong corporate market provide good conditions. Together with the business community and politics, challenges in the form of the weaker domestic market, insufficient aircraft capacity globally and insufficient efforts to proactively market Sweden as a tourist destination are being actively addressed.
The consultation period for the government's investigation into the infrastructure in connection with Arlanda recently expired. Swedavia looks forward to concrete decisions and activities. At the same time, the investigation into the future design of the national basic supply is underway. In this perspective, it is important to achieve as broad a political consensus as possible. Like the energy industry, the transport industry is also dependent on stable and predictable conditions.
