The airline Flybe, which was rescued by a Virgin Atlantic-led consortium just under a year ago, is once again on the brink of bankruptcy, reports Skynews.

According to the TV channel, discussions are currently underway about how the company can be saved, while the accounting firm EU is reportedly on standby with a bankruptcy filing.

The British government has reportedly been informed of the crisis, where 2,000 jobs are at risk of being lost. The Departments of Transport and Business are investigating the possibilities of offering emergency funding to the struggling airline, sources close to Flybe tell Skynews.

It was in March last year that a consortium consisting of Virgin Atlantic, Stobart Group and Cyrus Capital Partners purchased Flybe's operational assets, including 75 aircraft.

In the new company, Connect Airways, Cyrus owns 40 percent while the two other partner companies own 30 percent each. The consortium has promised to pump in 100 million pounds to turn around Flybe, but according to sources with insight, it will not be enough.
