A foreign diplomat refused to go through a security check at Arlanda. The police had to intervene – to find out what was going on, according to the law.
The incident occurred just under two weeks ago. Police were then ordered to terminal two at Arlanda, in connection with a foreign diplomat being flown out of there.
When the diplomat passed an alarm arch, it was supposed to have marked a random security check – but the diplomat ”"refused to submit to security checks"”, it says in a police memo that the news agency Siren has seen.
The diplomat's explanation
The diplomat said that it was not the alarm bar that had marked him, but the airport controller who had selected him for a random check. However, according to camera surveillance that the police checked, it can be seen, according to the police, that the bar lit up red when the man passed.
The police had to call in their embassy security coordinator to try to sort out the situation and point out which laws apply. In the end, the diplomat chose to ”submit to security checks,” according to the police report from the incident.
According to Siren, diplomats are generally required to undergo security checks, but airlines may allow them to board with an escort without having gone through the check.
The documents do not indicate where the diplomat comes from.
