EU countries decided on Monday to reintroduce travel restrictions on travelers from the United States due to increased spread of the coronavirus there.
This was announced by the press service of the Council of Ministers in a press release.
The US has maintained its restrictions on travelers from the EU during the summer.
In addition to the US, Israel, Kosovo, Lebanon, Montenegro and North Macedonia were also removed from the EU's list of countries that are exempt from restrictions, such as requirements for PCR tests or quarantine.
The decision is a recommendation. Each EU country decides on its own rules for entry and exit.
Tourist countries on the Mediterranean generally have milder restrictions.
There are 18 countries remaining on the EU's list that are exempt from restrictions, including Australia, Canada and Japan.
Schengen countries such as Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein are also not subject to restrictions. Micro-countries in the EU are also exempt. These include Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican City.
