High-speed trains may have more stops

The Västa Götaland region is interested in more stations on the planned high-speed rail line between Gothenburg and Borås, one of the country's busiest commuter routes today, reports Göteborgs-Posten.

The Swedish Transport Administration has identified Gothenburg Central Station, Mölndal, Landvetter Airport and Borås as the main stops, but the region could also consider Landvetter Södra, Mölnlycke and Bollebygd.

The question then is how they will be financed. The money the government has allocated so far only covers around ten percent of the construction cost.

– We are discussing with the Västra Götaland Region whether there should be more stations on the route, but this must not cause major disruption to through traffic and this will also entail additional costs, which largely need to be financed by another party, says Jörgen Einarsson, regional manager at the Swedish Transport Administration, to GP.
