Finnish airline Finnair has decided to cancel the planned change of chairman at this spring's annual general meeting. The announcement is motivated by the fact that it is not appropriate to change the chairman under the current circumstances. 

In a press release, Finnair writes that the company's nomination committee, current Chairman of the Board Jouko Karvinen and the intended Chairman Kari Stadigh have jointly reached the decision. 

”"Due to the changes in the company's operating environment, it is important to ensure continuity in the work of the Board of Directors and a change of Chairman of the Board is not considered appropriate under these circumstances," Finnair writes. 

As a consequence of the change in the nomination committee's proposal, Finnair's Annual General Meeting will be moved from March 24 to April 7. 

On Thursday, Finnair announced that the closure of Russian airspace following the country's invasion of Ukraine means that the company sees a need to lay off staff. 

Finnair expects to have to lay off 90 to 200 pilots and 150 to 450 cabin crew from April onwards. However, the need for layoffs will be determined by how the ”exceptional situation progresses” and may also change depending on what solutions may emerge during negotiations with employee representatives.
