The airline Finnair continued to be affected by the Covid-19 pandemic during December, but passenger traffic figures have improved and cargo operations have also been strengthened, according to a press release.
A total of 603,000 passengers flew with Finnair in December 2021, an increase of just over 550 percent compared to the heavily pandemic-affected comparison month a year earlier. Compared to November, December's figures corresponded to an increase of 23.8 percent. However, the figures are not fully comparable as December contained one more day.
”"The impact of COVID-19, including strict travel restrictions imposed by several countries due to the omicron variant, continues to affect all passenger traffic figures. This has been particularly evident in traffic across the North Atlantic and to Asia," Finnair writes.
However, traffic to the USA and Thailand reopened in November and passenger numbers have thus increased.
Capacity, measured as available seat kilometers (ASK), increased by 554 percent compared to the same month a year earlier and by 26.8 percent compared to November.
Traffic measured as revenue per passenger kilometer (RPK) increased by 1,082 percent compared to the same month a year earlier and by 49.8 percent compared to November.
Available scheduled freight tonne-kilometers increased by 450 percent compared to a year earlier and by 16.3 percent compared to the previous month. Revenue per freight tonne-kilometer increased by 347 percent compared to a year earlier and by 3.1 percent compared to November.
