Finnair is canceling around 100 flights on Sunday and Monday, following what the Finnish airline described in a press release as ”an illegal strike” by cabin crew in Helsinki.

Flights operated by the company Norra are not affected, nor are flights to Singapore, India, Barcelona and Madrid - as the cabin crew on these come from partners, or alternatively, those flights are operated by other airlines.

The airline will use the contact details provided when booking the trip to inform affected passengers. Customers can also check the status of their flights via Finnair's website, according to the airline.

The strike has broken out in the wake of Finnair's negotiations with union counterparts on cost-cutting measures to increase profitability.

”"We still hope that we will find a solution together," writes Finnair's Chief Operating Officer Jaakko Schildt in a comment.

Finnair expects to return to normal traffic on Monday afternoon, but warns that the strike may affect individual flights even after that.
