How are Sweden's hotels, holiday villages, hostels and campsites doing? Now you can easily access statistics on guest nights, capacity and occupancy in Sweden in a new web service from the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth.
The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth is now collecting statistics for Sweden's hotels, holiday villages, hostels and campsites in one place. The statistics show monthly guest nights, capacity and occupancy at hotels, holiday villages, hostels, campsites and brokered private cottages and apartments in Sweden.
-What's new is that the statistics can now be broken down to the municipal level, and this is something that has been requested by users for a long time. Another exciting news is that statistics can be produced per day. This allows you to see how guest nights and occupancy rates are affected by, for example, major events and holidays, says Jimi Löfman, analyst in charge.
Continuously monitor developments
Once a month, the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth collects data from Sweden's hotels, holiday villages, hostels and campsites, as well as from companies and organizations that conduct commercial brokerage of private cottages and apartments. From the data collected, the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth produces accommodation statistics with the aim of being able to continuously understand and describe the development of tourism in Sweden.
-We are now making it even easier to digitally access accommodation statistics on an ongoing basis. The statistics are important and much-needed knowledge about the occupancy rate at various Swedish commercial tourist accommodations. We are making it more visual and clear, which will hopefully make it more efficient and useful in the future, says Jimi Löfman.
Investment in tourism and hospitality
To maintain the quality and relevance of tourism statistics, the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth carries out ongoing quality and development work. Within the framework of the government's special investment in tourism and the hospitality industry, increased efforts are being made to develop quality in tourism statistics. The new web service for accommodation statistics is part of this investment.
"In this first stage, we are launching the accommodation statistics in our new statistics portal. But the plan is that the Svenskars Resande and IBIS surveys, which measure incoming visitors to Sweden, will also be published there in the future," says Jimi Löfman.
About accommodation statistics
The accommodation statistics are included in Sweden's official statistics and are a comprehensive survey and include all hotels, guesthouses, course and conference farms and hostels with at least five rooms or nine beds, all holiday villages with at least five cottages or 20 beds, as well as all camping facilities, STF-affiliated facilities and commercial intermediaries of private cottages and apartments.
The accommodation statistics are used, among other things, as a basis for decisions on special tourism initiatives at local, regional and national level. The data collected also forms the basis for calculating the effects of the travel and tourism industry on Sweden's economy and employment. The statistics have previously been available on the Statistics Sweden website.
