Delays for thousands of train passengers

A signal failure caused a stop to all train traffic in Katrineholm at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Swedish Transport Administration announced at 7 p.m. that the error had been fixed. However, subsequent delays are expected for thousands of travelers during the evening.

”"Right now, 33 trains are affected," says Pernilla Johansson at SJ's press office to TT.

The stop affected all long-distance and regional trains between Stockholm and Karlstad/Gothenburg/Norrköping/Malmö as well as between Eskilstuna and Linköping.

SJ diverted Malmö trains via Nyköping and Gothenburg trains via Eskilstuna and Örebro.

According to the Swedish Transport Administration, the fault was probably caused by thunder.

”"It seems to be weather-related, I would guess thunderstorms," said press communicator Lennart Helsing earlier.

Train traffic struggled with several problems on Wednesday. Among other things, passengers on the Öresund trains were affected by delays and diversions after a signal fault in the Drogden tunnel.
