German state railway company Deutsche Bahn plans to sell its international logistics company Schenker, writes ARD.
The profitable subsidiary, whose logo is visible on trucks and at parcel agents in Sweden, could either be sold directly or listed on the stock exchange.
Why? Deutsche Bahn is partly burdened with high debts. The company has also been criticized for its complicated corporate structure with many subsidiaries. In addition, the liberal FDP and the environmental party Die Grünen, which are in government, want to streamline Deutsche Bahn's operations.
The issue is not uncontroversial, however.
“A sale would be financial madness,” says union leader Klaus-Dieter Hommel.
Schenker is valued at between SEK 128 billion and SEK 214 billion.
